The sin of pride, and the pride of sin!

My initial purpose for joining a blog site was not to have a platform with which to talk, but rather it was a means to an end. Jonas and I decided to use a blog to help sort out what our (God’s) theology was, in an effort to build a firm foundation to the platform God is building in our lives. So, here goes the first real posting.Pride is the first recorded sin in scripture (now pride is not the first sin we read about in The Bible, but the fall that occurred in Genesis did not precede Lucifer's fall and angelic rebellion). Both Isaiah and Ezekiel mention Lucifer's fall, but perhaps Ezekiel's is the most cited in chapter 28:17-18. Lucifer fell from his place due to the sin of pride. Augustine was right when he stated that, "It was pride that changed angels into devils; and it is humility that makes men as angels." Our view of sin itself matters with regards to pride. If we see some sins (usually our sins) as not as bad as other sin, then we will be tempted with being prideful in viewing our on sins as compared to others. The Bible tells a different story though doesn't it? Jesus teaches that if we even so much as think about (fill in the blank) that we are guilty of it. The apostle James said it quite well in James 2:10 "For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it." My point or rather the point of scripture (much more important) is that sin is sin. There are, "sins leading to death, and sin not leading to death." 1 john 5 So we get the sense that sin is seen by God as sin regardless, but that the immediate consequences are, or rather can be different depending on what it is. If we lie when we get pulled over it is sin. If we lust after someone it is sin. If we call a brother or sister a bad name because we're having a bad day it is sin. If our sin takes place in a physical sense, or if our sin is a transgression that hurts our bodies such as the case with drugs, alcohol abuse, or as is the case with gluttony, or any number of things that many of us do to our bodies (temples of The Holy Spirit) everyday, is this simply the sin leading to death? If my anger causes me to sin and I'm all alone, it is still sin; but if my sinful anger causes me to mistreat others, its effect is more immediate and therefore more likely to cause death with regards to my relationships with others, but it is seen by God as just as sinful.

Conclusion: SIN IS SIN! Some sins have a more immediate and destructive consequence than others, but sin is still sin, and it therefore brings about death if not repented from! All sin alienates us from God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit regardless of what society or our sinful (and therefore prideful nature) may tell us.

  1. This basic understanding of sin is the basis for revolutionizing the way we minister to non-believers! I believe that we can expand the church through revival in a way we have never seen in America by simply realizing what you have just stated! I could'nt agree more my brother!
